If I already have a port placed in my arm, why do I have to have my blood drawn through a separate vein?
If you have or are going to have a port placed, it is important to have your blood drawn via a vein in your arm. This will allow for greater port longevity as well as decrease infection risks. The port will need to be flushed every 4 – 6 weeks.
