Cancer Patients Give Northwest Medical Specialties High Marks in Patient Satisfaction Surveys

Patient satisfaction ratings from Oncology Medical Home survey exceed WA and national averages.

Tacoma, Wash. – February 10, 2021 – Northwest Medical Specialties received high marks from patients in surveys collected by the Community Oncology Alliance (COA), the national organization that advocates for community oncology providers and the patients they serve.

Northwest Medical Specialties, which serves patients with cancer in the South Puget Sound, performed strongly in all areas of the survey. The 2020 rankings of the patient experience as reported by actual patients exceeded statewide and national averages.

COA’s “Oncology Medical Home (OMH) Patient Satisfaction Survey” tracks cancer patient experience and satisfaction nationally, statewide and by individual practice. With more than 184,000 individual patient surveys completed since launching in 2015, the OMH Patient Satisfaction Survey solicits patient feedback about their care providers and all aspects of treatment, including communication, thoroughness of information given, and staff friendliness and interaction. It is based on the standardized Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) and uses questions specifically designed for cancer care.

“We are incredibly proud of the high-quality and personal cancer care that is delivered at Northwest Medical Specialties. The OMH Survey feedback enables our leadership team to hear from patients, monitor and improve processes, and ensure excellent patient experiences,” said Sibel Blau, MD, Medical Director at Northwest Medical Specialties.

“The OMH is a proven model that provides enhanced patient communications, greater care coordination, and increased responsiveness to patient needs by participating in independent, national quality efforts like COA’s Oncology Medical Home (OMH), Northwest Medical Specialties is proving it is dedicated to delivering world-class, patient-centered cancer care,” said Bo Gamble, director strategic practice initiatives at COA. “We are incredibly proud of the success that the practice has seen in the OMH program which is reflected in these outstanding patient survey results.”

Independent, community oncology practices like Northwest Medical Specialties treat the majority of patients with cancer in America and are committed to improving oncology care for all. This includes leading the development and piloting of the original OMH model, as well as, participating in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center’s (CMMI) oncology payment and delivery reform initiatives such as the Oncology Care Model (OCM).

Community oncology practices do this while delivering high-quality, cutting-edge cancer care at a fraction of the cost of the hospital setting. The Community Oncology Alliance (COA) advocates for community oncology and smart public policy that ensures the community cancer care system remains healthy and able to provide all Americans with access to local, quality, affordable cancer care.
