Bringing Tomorrow’s Treatments to Patients Today: The Team Behind Clinical Research at NWMS

At Northwest Medical Specialties, clinical research is about more than advancing science. It creates opportunities for patients to access promising new treatments that may not otherwise be available. Behind every clinical trial is a dedicated team working to ensure research is conducted safely, ethically, and with patients at the center.

NWMS currently has 117 active clinical trials, including 78 that are recruiting patients. These studies span multiple cancer types and treatment approaches, giving patients access to cutting-edge therapies while helping advance the future of cancer care.

Moving a clinical trial from concept to patient care is complex. As one of the most regulated areas of healthcare, clinical research requires rigorous oversight, precise documentation, and a constant focus on patient safety. Each study must meet federal, industry, and institutional standards, and sustaining that level of excellence takes a strong team effort.

Our research program depends on a multidisciplinary team, with each role contributing to the success of every trial. Research assistants support daily study activities and patient interactions. Research coordinators connect patients, providers, sponsors, and study requirements. Data coordinators ensure information is collected and reported accurately. Research nurses provide expert clinical care and guide patients through the trial process. Regulatory specialists oversee compliance, while sample collection coordinators manage biological specimens that help researchers better understand treatments and outcomes.

Together, these team members make clinical research possible. From identifying eligible patients and navigating complex protocols to managing extensive data and maintaining compliance, their expertise helps turn scientific discoveries into real-world treatment options.

Most importantly, their work creates hope. Each trial offers a potential new path for patients and families facing cancer. By expanding access to innovative therapies and contributing to research that may improve care for future generations, the NWMS research team is helping shape the future of oncology, one patient, one study, and one breakthrough at a time.

We are proud of the remarkable work our research team does every day and grateful for the passion, collaboration, and commitment they bring to advancing research and delivering exceptional cancer care.
