NWMS Achieves 5th Highest Corporate Fundraiser Award For ACS Relay For Life

Thanks to all of your generosity we were able to exceed our goal for the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life, making us the 5th highest corporate fundraiser this year. This contribution will help so many people. It could provide 630 free rides to appointments or 315 free nights of lodging for cancer patients who need to travel for treatments. It could also help to fund a research grant to help find a new cancer treatment. Every dollar counts and really does make a difference. Thank you to those who were able to come out and show your support and for all the donations made to the raffle baskets, jean days, luncheons, bake sales, coffee carts and so much more.
Relay for Life started right here in Tacoma with one man, Dr. Gordy Klatt, doing what he could to help in the fight against cancer. 2019 marked the 35th anniversary of his first walk and the event is now being held in more than 30 countries. The Tacoma event alone raised a total of $457,416 in 2019. There is power in community and this shows what we can accomplish when we all work together toward a common goal.
We are so grateful to be part of a company of individuals that really care about our patients and our community. Way to go NWMS!

Airbnb Announced A Strategic Partnership With The Cancer Support Community

Airbnb announced a strategic partnership with the Cancer Support Community. Through this collaboration, the Airbnb community will provide free housing for cancer patients and caregivers, provided they meet certain geographic and income criteria. Airbnb made the announcement at an event in New York organized by the Biden Cancer Initiative and featuring Vice President Joe Biden.

Airbnb is providing grant funding that will help relieve the financial burden of patients and their families in finding housing when traveling for treatment.

As CSC CEO Kim Thiboldeaux said in an Airbnb press release announcing the program, this is a major development for cancer patients:

“The Cancer Support Community fields thousands of calls from individuals who are struggling to cover the cost of traveling for treatments, scans, clinical trials, and other medically necessary care. This grant from Airbnb is a game-changer for these patients and caregivers — and you can hear the relief and gratitude in their voices as they learn about the free housing from the Airbnb community.”

Congratulations to Amanda H, Medical Lab Technician

May 2019 On the Spot Winner

“Amanda showed great initiative and leadership by taking it upon herself to organize and cleaned the lab. She labeled all cabinets, shelves, etc….for appropriate supply placement. This will help manage the laboratory’s inventory of supplies and ensure that we only order what we need and don’t become overstocked on items that we don’t.”
